Fanuc Alarm 159 - ILLEGAL TOOL LIFE DATA
Alarm 159 indicates the tool life management data stored in CNC memory has become corrupted or contains invalid values. This typically occurs after battery failure, parameter corruption, incorrect G10 L3 data input, or memory errors affecting the tool life management table registers.

SYSTEM ALARM 159
Fanuc alarm 159: SYSTEM ALARM 159. This alarm indicates a fault condition detected by the Fanuc control. Refer to the alarm number and name to identify the specific system or function involved.
Root Cause Summary
Alarm 159 indicates the tool life management data stored in CNC memory has become corrupted or contains invalid values. This typically occurs after battery failure, parameter corruption, incorrect G10 L3 data input, or memory errors affecting the tool life management table registers.
Causes and Fixes
Navigate to SYSTEM > PARAM and check Parameter 13280-13299 (tool life management group parameters) for invalid values or corruption. Verify Parameter 13280 bit settings for tool life management enablement.
Access the tool life management screen via OFFSET/SETTING > LIFE and observe if data displays as garbled, negative numbers, or overflow values indicating memory corruption.
Check battery voltage on diagnostic screen SYSTEM > DIAGNOSIS > BATTERY. If voltage is below 3.0V or battery alarm present (LOW BATT indicator), replace battery immediately and re-register all tool life data.
Battery replacement requires parameter backup. Power loss during replacement will erase all parameters and tool data if backup battery is depleted.
Clear all tool life data by executing G10 L3 P0 (clears all groups) from MDI, then re-register tool life management groups and tool data systematically using G10 L3 Pn commands with valid tool numbers and life values.
