Fanuc Alarm 151 - GROUP NOT FOUND AT LIFE DATA

Canned Cycle Error

Fanuc program alarm 151: Canned Cycle Error. The part program contains an error or illegal condition that the Fanuc control cannot execute. Correct the program to clear this alarm.

Root Cause Summary

Fanuc Alarm 151 occurs when the G-code program references a tool group number in a T-code or tool life management command (G10 L3) that does not exist in the tool life management data table. This is typically caused by incorrect tool group registration, program error referencing non-existent groups, or corrupted tool life data.

Safety

  • Stop machine operation before modifying program parameters
  • Before modifying any program or parameters, ensure you understand the potential consequences. Incorrect changes can cause machine damage or personal injury.
  • Always verify the program in single-block mode before running it in automatic mode.
  • Be aware of the rapid traverse movements during canned cycles. Ensure there are no obstructions in the machine's path.
  • Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped to prevent movement during machining.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as safety glasses, when working with CNC machines.
  • Be aware of potential electrical hazards when working with CNC machines. Do not attempt to repair electrical components unless you are a qualified electrician. Power down and lock out the machine before performing any electrical work.
  • Be aware of potential mechanical hazards, such as moving parts. Keep hands and clothing away from moving parts.
  • Ensure the machine is powered off or in a safe mode before making any changes to programs or settings.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Press OFFSET/SETTING key, then select the LIFE soft key to access tool life management screen. Verify if the tool group number referenced in the program exists in the registered groups list.

  2. 2

If group is missing, register the tool group: Press soft key [OPR] > [SET GRP] or use G10 L3 command to define the group. Input group number, tool count, and life type (time/count). Example: G10 L3 P1 R5 L10000; (Group 1, 5 tools, 10000 count life).

  3. 3

Check parameter 6800#0 (TLF) = 1 to confirm tool life management function is enabled. Navigate to SYSTEM > PARAM > [6800] and verify bit 0 is set to 1.

Parameter write enable switch (parameter 3202#0=1 or KEY switch to EDIT) must be active to modify parameters.

  4. 4

After registering tool group, reset alarm with RESET key and restart program. Verify tool life data is retained by checking OFFSET > LIFE screen shows all registered groups.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Parameter 6800 cannot be modified due to access restrictions
  • ·Tool Life Management screen is inaccessible
  • ·Repeated data corruption occurs

Prevention

  • Regularly backup Tool Life Management data
  • Verify tool group numbers during program creation
  • Document all tool group assignments in setup sheets
  • Enable parameter write protection after setup

Common Mistakes

  • Assuming tool groups auto-register when referenced
  • Forgetting to enable Tool Life Management after parameter changes
  • Using tool numbers instead of tool group numbers in programs
  • Clearing tool life data without backup
