Fanuc Alarm 045 - ADDRESS Q NOT FOUND (G73/G83)

FANUC ALARM 45

In a high-speed peck drilling or peck drilling cycle, the cut amount per pass is not specified by address Q, or Q0 is specified.

Root Cause Summary

Fanuc Alarm 045 occurs when G73 (high-speed peck drilling) or G83 (peck drilling cycle) is commanded without a valid Q address value specifying the incremental drill depth per peck. The Q value must be present and non-zero for the canned cycle to execute properly.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Review the active program line in EDIT or MEM mode. Locate the G73 or G83 block and verify the Q address is present (example: G83 X_ Y_ Z_ R_ Q_ F_).

  2. 2

Check that the Q value is greater than zero and specified in millimeters or inches according to G20/G21 modal state. Typical values range from Q0.5 to Q5.0 depending on application.

  3. 3

Correct the program by adding or modifying the Q value (example: G83 Z-50. R3. Q5. F100). Press RESET to clear alarm 045, then restart the cycle.

  4. 4

If using a subprogram or macro call, verify Q is not being passed as a null variable. Check variables #1-#33 via OFFSET/SETTING > MACRO VARIABLES if applicable.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Macro variable system errors persist
  • ·Parameter corruption suspected
  • ·Control software issues

Prevention

  • Always include Q address when programming G73/G83 cycles
  • Use drilling cycle templates or standard formats
  • Initialize macro variables in program header
  • Validate Q values are appropriate for material and tool

Common Mistakes

  • Copying G81 format and changing to G83 without adding Q
  • Setting Q0 thinking it means 'automatic' peck amount
  • Using undefined macro variables for Q values
  • Confusing Q (peck amount) with P (dwell time) addresses
