Fanuc Alarm 005 - Missing Data After Address

No Data After Address

Fanuc program alarm 005: No Data After Address. The part program contains an error or illegal condition that the Fanuc control cannot execute. Correct the program to clear this alarm.

Root Cause Summary

Fanuc Alarm 005 occurs when the CNC control reads an address letter (G, X, Y, Z, F, S, T, M, etc.) in a program block that is not followed by the required numeric value. This is a program syntax error that prevents the control from interpreting the commanded operation. The alarm is triggered during program verification, MDI input, or execution when the parser encounters an incomplete address command.

Safety

  • Command incomplete

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Press RESET to clear the alarm. Note the program block number (N-number or line number) displayed with the alarm on the ALARM screen.

  2. 2

Navigate to EDIT mode, search for the flagged block number using the search function, and examine each address letter in that block to identify which letter lacks numeric data.

  3. 3

Correct the program by adding the missing numeric value after the address letter (e.g., change 'G X50.0' to 'G01 X50.0' or 'M' to 'M30'). Verify proper spacing between addresses.

  4. 4

Perform program check by switching to MEM mode, set parameter 3107#0 (Program Check Mode) to 1 via SYSTEM > PARAM, then execute a dry run to verify no syntax errors remain. Return parameter 3107#0 to 0 after verification.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Program corruption persists after multiple transfer attempts
  • ·Parameter modification required beyond operator access level

Prevention

  • Always validate program syntax before loading
  • Use consistent CAM post-processor settings
  • Implement program backup procedures
  • Train operators on proper program editing techniques

Common Mistakes

  • Assuming alarm is hardware-related instead of program syntax
  • Editing programs without understanding FANUC address-value pair requirements
  • Not using program check mode before execution
  • Ignoring communication parameter settings during program transfer
