Fanuc Alarm 007 - Invalid Decimal Point

Illegal Use of Decimal Point

Fanuc program alarm 007: Illegal Use of Decimal Point. The part program contains an error or illegal condition that the Fanuc control cannot execute. Correct the program to clear this alarm.

Root Cause Summary

Fanuc Alarm 007 occurs when a decimal point is used in a G-code address that does not accept decimal notation. This is a program syntax error caused by incorrect address formatting in the part program, most commonly with addresses that require integer values only such as N (sequence number), G (preparatory function), M (miscellaneous function), T (tool number), or H/D (offset numbers).

Safety

  • Command will not execute

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Note the block number (N number) displayed with the alarm on the CNC display screen. Press RESET to clear the alarm and access the program.

  2. 2

Navigate to EDIT mode, select the program causing the alarm, and search for the block number indicated in the alarm message.

  3. 3

Examine all address codes in the flagged block for decimal points. Check G, M, T, N, H, D, S, P, and L codes specifically. Remove any decimal points from these addresses (e.g., change 'G01.0' to 'G01', 'M03.5' to 'M03').

  4. 4

Verify Parameter 3450 (decimal point input setting) to confirm which addresses accept decimal input for your specific machine configuration. Bit settings determine allowed decimal usage per address.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Parameter changes required beyond operator authority
  • ·Systematic post-processor issues affecting multiple machines
  • ·Alarm persists after correcting obvious decimal point errors

Prevention

  • Establish consistent decimal point formatting standards
  • Verify CAM post-processor FANUC compatibility
  • Use program check mode before running new programs
  • Train programmers on FANUC address format requirements

Common Mistakes

  • Adding decimal points to tool numbers (T01.0 instead of T01)
  • Using multiple decimal points in single values
  • Mixing calculator and standard decimal formats
  • Copying code between different control types without format verification
