Siemens 8101 - Option for collision avoidance is inadequate

Option for collision avoidance is inadequate

Control reaction: Interpreter stop NC Start disable in this channel. Interface signals are set. Alarm display.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 8101 fires when the 3D collision avoidance option license level or protection zone capacity is exceeded. This occurs when the NCK attempts to process more protection zones than the current option stage permits, or when an unsupported protection zone type is requested that exceeds the machine's configured SafetyIntegrated or ProfiSafe capability level.

Safety

  • Only qualified personnel should diagnose and clear control alarms; follow the machine builder's safety procedures and lockout/tagout where hardware work is required.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Access Diagnostics menu: [SYSTEM] > [Diagnostics] > [Parameters] and verify MD10601 (Safety option stage). Document the current value (typically 0=none, 1=basic, 2=advanced).

  2. 2

Count active 3D protection zones in the WorkVisual project: open Safety Integrated configuration and review all instantiated F_Protect3D_Sphere, F_Protect3D_Box, F_Protect3D_Cylinder blocks across all safety programs.

Do not include inactive or commented-out blocks in the count; only those compiled into the executable safety program.

  3. 3

Cross-reference zone count against SINUMERIK SafetyIntegrated documentation limits for your option stage. If exceeded, either reduce zones or upgrade MD10601 value and reload safety configuration via [SYSTEM] > [SafetyIntegrated] > [Load Program].

  4. 4

Re-compile and download the NC program using [Program] > [Check Program] to validate that zone definitions conform to the option stage limit before resuming operation.
