Siemens 8030 - Block option 'interpolation of more than axes' not set

Block option 'interpolation of more than axes' not set

The option for the number of interpolating axes does not correspond to the number of axes programmed in the interpolation group Control reaction: Interpreter stop NC Start disable in this channel. Interface signals are set. Alarm display.

Root Cause Summary

SIEMENS alarm 8030 fires when the NCK detects loss of cyclic data exchange with PROFIBUS DP slaves within the configured MD11250 DP_TIMEOUT period. This communication failure invalidates critical I/O signals including drive enables and safety inputs, forcing the NCK into a safe state until PROFIBUS communication is restored.

Safety

  • Only qualified personnel should diagnose and clear control alarms; follow the machine builder's safety procedures and lockout/tagout where hardware work is required.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check PROFIBUS cable continuity

Inspect PROFIBUS DP cable for damage, proper shielding connection, and verify 120-ohm termination resistors at both network ends.

Always power down before disconnecting PROFIBUS connectors to prevent damage

  2. 2

    Verify connector integrity

Check all PROFIBUS DP connectors for proper seating, corrosion, and bent pins. Ensure SUB-D9 connectors are fully tightened.

Use a PROFIBUS tester to measure signal quality and termination resistance

  3. 3

    Test cable segments

Isolate network segments by disconnecting slaves one by one to identify faulty cable sections or problematic devices.

Maximum PROFIBUS DP cable length is 1200m at 9.6kBaud, 200m at 1.5MBaud

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Multiple slaves failing simultaneously
  • ·Intermittent faults with no clear pattern
  • ·PROFIBUS master hardware suspected faulty

Prevention

  • Regular PROFIBUS cable inspection
  • Monitor MD11250 timeout settings
  • Maintain proper cable routing away from EMI sources
  • Schedule preventive replacement of aging PROFIBUS connectors

Common Mistakes

  • Ignoring termination resistors
  • Using non-PROFIBUS rated cables
  • Incorrect shield grounding
  • Setting MD11250 timeout too low for network size
