Siemens 840D 8041 - Axis: MD reset, corresponding option not sufficient

Axis: MD reset, corresponding option not sufficient

All of the axes selected in the machine data of the assigned option are used. Safety functions have been selected for too many axes in the axial machine data. The alarm can be reprogrammed in the MD ALARM_REACTION_CHAN_NOREADY (channel not ready).

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 8041 fires when safety-related functions (e.g., SLS, SOS, SBC) are configured for more axes than the licensed option permits in machine data. The NCK detects a mismatch between the number of axes assigned in safety MD parameters and the actual axis count allowed by the active safety option license.

Safety

  • Refer to Siemens documentation
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Access NCK/PLC menu: Diagnosis > Machine Data > Servo. Locate MD 30120 (AXCONF_MACHAX_USED) and cross-reference with active axis safety MDs in range 34300-34399 (SLS limits, SOS parameters, SBC activation flags).

Do not modify without confirming licensed axis count in purchase documentation.

  2. 2

Check Siemens license key via HMI > Service > License or SINUMERIK Operate Panel. Verify the 'MAX_AXES_SAFETY' parameter matches the axis count configured in safety MDs.

  3. 3

If axis count exceeds license: either reduce configured axes in safety MDs (disable safety monitoring on surplus axes) or upgrade the safety option license via Siemens Service.

Removing safety MDs from unused axes requires full machine data backup and channel reset (POWER RESET).

  4. 4

After modification, perform NCK POWER RESET via HMI menu Maintenance > Reset > Full System Reset. Monitor trace for alarm 8041 re-occurrence.
