Access Siemens HMI operator panel or SINUMERIK Operate software. Navigate to Machine > Parameters > Axis Configuration (or via NCK menu: Parameter > Channel-Specific > MD 20070). Document the current AXCONF_MACHAX_USED value.

Do not modify MD 20070 without understanding machine layout; incorrect axis count can cause motion errors.

Verify the software license installed on the CPU module. Use SINUMERIK Operate: HMI menu > System > License Information to display active options. Cross-reference the 'Maximum Axes' field against MD 20070 value.

If MD 20070 value exceeds license limit (e.g., MD 20070=5 but license allows 3 axes), either reduce AXCONF_MACHAX_USED to match the license, or contact your Siemens distributor to purchase an upgraded axis option license.

Reducing axes may impact machine functionality; coordinate with machine builder before changes.

After correcting MD 20070 or upgrading the license, perform a warm restart of the NCK (Control > Reset or via HMI Home button). Monitor alarm log to confirm 8010 clears on next power-up.

In SINUMERIK Operate, navigate to HMI > System > Diagnostics > License Manager (or System Information screen). Verify that a valid license entry appears and that the license expiration date has not passed.

Check the CPU module serial number against the license certificate documentation. If a recent CPU replacement occurred, the license may be bound to the old module ID and not recognized by the new CPU.

If the license appears missing or bound to a different CPU, use SINUMERIK Automation Tool or contact Siemens Service to re-license the new CPU module. Download the license file and install it via the NCK commissioning interface.

License installation may require control restart and temporary machine downtime.

Determine the actual physical axis count on the machine by inspecting servo motor nameplate data, encoder configuration, and comparing against the original machine documentation or OEM commissioning sheet.

Verify that MD 20070 AXCONF_MACHAX_USED matches the physical axis count. Use NCK Parameter Editor (Siemens Automation Tool or HMI menu) to inspect and document the current setting.

If MD 20070 value exceeds the physical and licensed axis count, reduce it to the correct number. For example, if the license supports 3 axes but MD 20070 is set to 5, change AXCONF_MACHAX_USED to 3.

Verify machine kinematic configuration (MD 20050 AXCONF_MACHAX_NAME_TAB) to ensure axis names align with the reduced count.

Save machine data changes and execute a warm restart (Control > Reset). Verify alarm 8010 is cleared in the alarm history log.
