Access the NCK Diagnostic/Parameter menu via the Siemens HMI or SINUMERIK operate panel. Navigate to Diagnostic > Machine Data and search for parameters containing 'SRAM', 'Memory', or 'Option' keywords.

Locate the specific MD parameter that defines maximum SRAM allocation (commonly MD10080 or similar, varies by SINUMERIK version). Document the current value in kilobytes and compare against the licensed option limit specified in the system configuration file or hardware license data.

Do not modify MD values without documented authorization from the machine builder.

Cross-reference the detected SRAM size against the option license file stored in the NCK (typically accessible via Siemens SINUMERIK software or maintenance menu). If the active SRAM exceeds the option license limit, the option key must be updated or SRAM allocation must be reduced.

Contact Siemens technical support or the machine builder with the current SRAM allocation value and option license ID. Request either an updated license option key to accommodate the required SRAM, or reduce SRAM allocation via MD reconfiguration.

Verify the current SINUMERIK firmware/NCK version via the HMI System Information menu or Diagnostics > System Data. Document the version number and build date.

Check the machine's option license file version and compare against the firmware version. If the firmware is newer than the license, an option key update is required. Access the license file via the NCK menu path: Diagnostics > System Data > License Information.

If a recent firmware or software update was applied, verify whether the update requires a new or upgraded option license from Siemens. Consult the firmware release notes or service bulletin for SRAM memory requirement changes.

Obtain an updated option license key from Siemens or the authorized distributor that matches the installed firmware version and supports the required SRAM allocation. Follow the machine builder's procedure to load the new license into the NCK.

Power down the control and physically inspect the control cabinet for SRAM modules or memory expansion cards. Document the actual installed memory capacity and part numbers.

Follow electrical safety procedures and ensure the control is de-energized before opening the cabinet.

Boot the control into maintenance mode and access Diagnostics > Hardware Information. Verify the detected SRAM size reported by the NCK firmware and compare against the physically installed memory and the hardware configuration table stored in the control.

If detected SRAM exceeds the configured hardware limit, the NCK hardware configuration (typically programmed during factory commissioning) must be updated. Obtain the original hardware configuration or contact Siemens to reconfigure the SRAM limit to match the installed memory.

If memory was added after original commissioning, the machine option license must also be updated to authorize the additional SRAM. Submit a service request to Siemens with the control serial number, current option license ID, and new SRAM specifications.
