Siemens 8020 - Option 'activation of more than channels' not set

Option 'activation of more than channels' not set

A 2nd channel has been indicated but the corresponding option does not exist Control reaction: NC Start disable in this channel. Interface signals are set. Alarm display.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 8020 fires when the NC kernel (NCK) attempts to activate a second channel (or additional channels beyond the licensed quantity) but the machine's option configuration does not include the multi-channel activation license. This is a licensing/configuration mismatch between the part program request and the actual system entitlements stored in the machine data.

Safety

  • Only qualified personnel should diagnose and clear control alarms; follow the machine builder's safety procedures and lockout/tagout where hardware work is required.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Access Siemens HMI menu: Diagnostics → Machine Data → Search for MD10200 (or MD10210 for channel-specific settings). Verify the value matches the number of channels your license permits.

Do NOT modify MD parameters without proper authorization and documentation backup.

  2. 2

Cross-reference the license file (typically stored in /user/license or via SIEMENS service tool). Confirm the option 'activation of more than 1 channel' or equivalent is listed in active licenses.

  3. 3

If license is valid but MD10200 is incorrect, contact your Siemens service partner to issue a new license key and reload via Diagnostics → System Information → License Management.
