Siemens 840D 6432 - Function not executable. No tool assigned to tool holder/spindle
Alarm 6432 fires when the NCK attempts to execute a function requiring an active tool (such as tool life counter monitoring, tool offset application, or spindle operations) but no tool has been assigned to the current spindle via the tool management system. This typically occurs when tool selection via M6 or T-word programming fails or tool data is not properly loaded into the active tool holder.

Root Cause Summary

This typically occurs when tool selection via M6 or T-word programming fails or tool data is not properly loaded into the active tool holder.
Safety
Causes and Fixes
Verify that the NC program issues a valid T-word (tool selection) followed by M6 (tool change confirmation) before any operation requiring the tool (spindle rotation, tool length offset G43/G44, or tool life monitoring). Check the part program sequence at the point where alarm 6432 occurs.
In the Siemens HMI, navigate to Diagnostics > Alarms and note the exact NC line number triggering the alarm. Trace back in the part program to confirm M6 was issued and completed.
Check parameter MD 20410 (tool life/quantity monitoring enable flag) and MD 20411 (tool life monitoring type). If these are enabled but no tool is assigned, the alarm will fire. Temporarily disable monitoring or ensure tool selection precedes the monitored operation.
Do not permanently disable tool monitoring without management approval; this impacts tool life tracking.
Verify tool data exists in the Tool Management System (TMS) accessible via Diagnostics > Tool Data or via external tool table import. Confirm the T-number referenced in the program exists in the active tool magazine/holder definition.
