6430

Siemens 840D 6430 - Workpiece counter: overflow in table of monitored cutting edges.

Workpiece counter: overflow in table of monitored cutting edges.

Siemens SINUMERIK alarm 6430: Workpiece counter: overflow in table of monitored cutting edges. This alarm indicates a fault or error condition on the SINUMERIK 840D control. Refer to the Siemens SINUMERIK alarm documentation for the complete description and remedy.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 6430 indicates the workpiece counter table in the NCK has reached maximum capacity for monitored cutting edges. The system maintains a finite table of cutting edge entries across all tool offsets (TO units), and when each available cutting edge slot is consumed, no additional edges can be registered for workpiece tracking.

Safety

  • Refer to Siemens documentation
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Access Diagnostics > Tool Data > Cutting Edge Monitor via HMI. Review the current count of active cutting edges across all loaded TO units (typically displayed in NCK overview).

  2. 2

Check MD 20090 (max edges per tool) and MD 20000 (tool management enable). Reduce MD 20090 if excessive edge variants are defined but not all are actively used in production.

Reducing MD 20090 may disable wear offset tracking for lower-priority tool edges.

  3. 3

Unload or consolidate unused tool offset (TO) units from the tool table. Use MANAGE TOOLS menu to identify and remove redundant tool definitions not referenced in active NC programs.

  4. 4

Restart the NCK (warm or cold reset depending on system state) to reinitialize the workpiece counter table and clear the overflow flag.
