Safety
Causes and Fixes
Check magazine location status in HMI: Navigate to Diagnostics > Tool Management > Magazine Status and verify the target location %4 shows as 'Free' or 'Empty'. Cross-reference with actual magazine state.
Do NOT issue tool movements while location status shows occupied.
Verify tool gripper/arm is fully retracted and not blocking access. Manually jog gripper away from magazine using MDI or Service > Manual > Tool Changer. Check parameter MD18080 (tool magazine type) configuration matches physical setup.
Monitor PLC signals for magazine location occupation via Diagnostics > System Info > PLC > Inputs. Confirm feedback signals from magazine sensors (typically DI inputs mapped to tool management) are reporting correctly. Cross-check FEPROM tool magazine database (MD18000-MD18100 range) for stale occupation records.
If location remains blocked, perform magazine reset: Navigate to Service > Tool Management > Reset Magazine, then reinitialize tool positions. This clears stale status flags in the SINUMERIK NCK database.
Magazine reset will require re-referencing all tool locations.
