Siemens 840D 61316 - Channel Block: Center and radius cannot be determined

Channel Block: Center and radius cannot be determined

No circle can be calculated from the measured points, as all measured points lie on a straight line. The alarm is triggered by: CYCLE979 Remedy: Program change

Safety

  • Refer to Siemens documentation
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Common Causes

  • Probe measurement points are collinear (all on a straight line) due to incorrect probe positioning or workpiece setup
  • Insufficient or inadequate number of measurement points collected during the probing cycle
  • Worn or damaged probe stylus causing inaccurate measurement data
  • Workpiece is severely out of round or not mounted concentrically, making circular geometry impossible to detect

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Verify probe calibration and stylus condition; replace stylus if worn or damaged and recalibrate probe offset
  2. 2Review CYCLE979 program block and measurement point sequence; ensure at least 3 non-collinear points are being captured
  3. 3Manually position probe at different angular positions around the workpiece to confirm adequate point distribution and non-linear geometry
  4. 4Inspect workpiece mounting, clamping, and runout; verify the feature being probed is actually circular and not worn flat or damaged
  5. 5Edit program to reposition probe measurement points away from any straight-line path and re-execute the probing cycle
