61302

Siemens 61302 - Block : Probe - collision

Block: Probe - collision

The measuring probe collided with an obstacle when being positioned

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 61302 fires when the probe stylus contacts an unexpected obstacle during positioning within a measuring cycle, indicating a collision before the probe reaches its intended measurement point. This occurs due to misconfiguration of probe geometry parameters, excessive measuring distances, or workpiece setup errors that place obstacles in the probe's path.

Safety

  • Only qualified personnel should diagnose and clear control alarms; follow the machine builder's safety procedures and lockout/tagout where hardware work is required.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Navigate to Diagnostics > Alarms in the HMI. Verify the probe tool number and check MD 32510 (PROBING_PROBE_DIAMETER) and MD 32511 (PROBING_STYLUS_LENGTH) against actual physical probe dimensions using calipers.

Measure the probe spigot OD at the narrowest point; undersizing this parameter by even 2-3mm can cause collisions with tight fixtures.

  2. 2

Correct the probe geometry parameters: Access Setup > Machine Data > Probe/Measuring (MD 32500 series) and update the spigot diameter to match actual hardware specifications. Confirm tool offset entry matches probe serial number.

  3. 3

Execute a dry run of the measuring cycle using MDI with DRY_RUN enabled to visualize the probe path without executing spindle rotation. Observe collision detection in the NCK trace log.

  4. 4

Perform a test cycle on scrap material with reduced feed rates (parameter MD 32520 PROBING_DISTANCE_MAX reduced by 50%) to confirm clearance before returning to production parameters.
