61303

Siemens 61303 - Block : Safety margin exceeded

Block: Safety margin exceeded

The measuring result differs greatly from the specified value

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 61303 indicates that a measuring cycle result deviates beyond the configured safety tolerance threshold from the programmed setpoint value. This occurs when the actual measured position differs significantly from the expected value, typically triggered during probing or tool measurement cycles where the NCK compares measured data against programmed coordinates and tolerance parameters.

Safety

  • Only qualified personnel should diagnose and clear control alarms; follow the machine builder's safety procedures and lockout/tagout where hardware work is required.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Access the NCK measuring parameters via HMI: Diagnostics > Machine Parameters > Measuring > Search for parameter containing '_TSA' or reference MD10340 (measuring tolerance band) in machine data. Document current value.

  2. 2

Increase the _TSA parameter value incrementally (typically 0.05-0.10mm steps) to accommodate normal measurement scatter. For tool measurement, increase MD10340 value proportionally. Recalculate based on machine repeatability (±0.05mm typical for servo systems).

Do not exceed 0.5mm tolerance increase without validating against part tolerance requirements and functional safety constraints.

  3. 3

Re-execute the measuring cycle in DRY RUN mode (G65 or equivalent probing cycle) to verify alarm does not recur with new margin setting.

  4. 4

Document the new _TSA value in machine documentation and verify it is persistent after power cycle by checking via Siemens HMI parameter display.
