4701

Okuma OSP Alarm C 4701 - Chip conveyer overload occurs instead of this alarm.

Chip conveyer overload occurs instead of this alarm.

The overload protector of a chip conveyor motor has tripped: the main chip conveyor, an in-machine conveyor, the scraper conveyor or the conveyor reverse pump, depending on the code. The conveyor is stopped to protect its motor.

Common Causes

  • Chip conveyor clogged with chips putting the motor under excessive load
  • Conveyor chain or scraper jammed by a long stringy chip bundle or a foreign object
  • Motor overload relay heater element worn or mis-sized
  • Conveyor motor bearing or gearbox failure raising current draw

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code None = Overload of the chip conveyer motor tripped.; code 1 = Overload of the 1st inside machine conveyer motor tripped.; code 2 = Overload of the 2nd inside machine conveyer motor tripped.; code 3 = Overload of the scraper conveyer motor tripped.; code 4 = Overload of the conveyer reverse pump motor tripped.
  2. 2Read the code: no code means the main chip conveyer motor overload tripped; 1 is the 1st inside machine conveyer, 2 is the 2nd inside machine conveyer, 3 is the scraper conveyer, 4 is the conveyer reverse pump motor.
  3. 3Check the indicated chip conveyer for clogging with chips as the manual directs: clear the chip buildup, especially at the discharge and any tight turns.
  4. 4Inspect the conveyor chain, flights and scraper for a jammed chip bundle or foreign object and remove it with the conveyor locked out.
  5. 5Reset the motor overload relay, run the conveyor and watch its current; current climbing again points to mechanical drag rather than a one-off jam.
  6. 6If the overload trips with a clean conveyor, check the motor, gearbox and overload heater element before returning the conveyor to service.
