Okuma OSP Alarm C 3892 - Hydraulic oil level lower limit

Hydraulic oil level lower limit

The hydraulic unit reported that its oil level dropped to or below a monitored limit. The control reads level switches in the hydraulic tank and raises this alarm when a level signal is kept off longer than its debounce time.

Common Causes

  • Hydraulic oil in the tank genuinely low from leaks or normal consumption
  • Faulty or sticking oil level float switch in the hydraulic unit
  • Wiring problem between the level switch and the NC input

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code 1 = Lowest-limit level signal kept off for a second or longer; code 2 = Lower-limit level signal kept off for a second or longer; code 3 = Lower oil level detected directly; code 4 = Oil level normal signal remained off more than 3 seconds
  2. 2Read the alarm code on screen: code 1 means the lowest-limit signal kept off for a second or longer, code 2 the lower-limit signal kept off for a second or longer, code 3 a direct lower-level detection, and code 4 the normal-level signal remained off more than 3 seconds.
  3. 3Check the sight glass or dipstick on the hydraulic unit and top up with the specified hydraulic oil if the level is visibly below normal.
  4. 4While the tank is being topped up, inspect under the machine, at the chuck actuator, turret hydraulics, and tailstock lines for fresh oil that indicates a leak.
  5. 5If the level is normal, test the float switch by gently lifting the float and watching the input change on the I/O check screen; replace the switch if it does not change state within a second.
  6. 6If the switch works at the tank, trace its cable back to the NC input for a loose connector or chafed wire that kept the signal off longer than the debounce time.
