Okuma OSP Alarm B 2789 - Coolant tank filter clogged

Coolant tank filter clogged

The filter in the through-the-tool coolant tank is clogged. The clog detection signal stayed ON for more than 1 second while one of the coolant motors was running, meaning flow through the high-pressure oil hole circuit is restricted.

Common Causes

  • Filter actually clogged with chips and swarf
  • Malfunction of the pressure switch for detecting clogged filter
  • Coolant contamination beyond normal filter capacity

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code 1 = Filter clog signal ON more than 1 s while oil hole (through spindle coolant) motor ON; code 2 = Filter clog signal ON more than 1 s while shower coolant motor ON; code 3 = Filter clog signal ON more than 1 s while washing gun motor ON
  2. 2Read the code: 1 means the hi-pressure oil hole tank filter clog signal was ON more than 1 second while the oil hole (through spindle coolant) motor was ON, 2 means it was ON while the shower coolant motor was ON, 3 means it was ON while the washing gun motor was ON.
  3. 3Clean the filter as the manual directs: remove the filter element from the through-the-tool coolant tank and flush or replace it.
  4. 4Check the coolant tank for excessive chips and clean it so the filter does not clog again immediately.
  5. 5If a clean filter still shows the clog signal, test the pressure switch for detecting clogged filter and its wiring; replace the switch if it reads clogged with good flow.
  6. 6Restart the coolant motor that was named by the code and confirm the clog signal stays OFF.
