Okuma OSP Alarm B 2783 - Oil hole motor overload

Oil hole motor overload

The overload relay protecting the through-spindle (through-the-tool) coolant pump motor has tripped. With code 1, the control saw the oil-hole ON confirmation signal stay off for more than 3 seconds while the pump motor was commanded on, indicating the pump is not actually delivering.

Common Causes

  • Failed through-the-tool coolant pump motor
  • Clogged pump intake, filter, or coolant lines causing the motor to labor
  • Tripped or faulty overload relay on the pump motor circuit
  • Faulty ON confirmation (pressure/flow) switch or its wiring

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code 1 = The oil-hole (through-spindle coolant) ON confirmation signal stayed off for over 3 seconds while the pump motor was on
  2. 2Read the code: code 1 means the ON confirmation signal never came up within 3 seconds of the pump starting - the pump is running (or trying to) but no delivery is confirmed.
  3. 3Check the coolant tank level and inspect the pump suction filter and through-spindle coolant lines for clogging; clean or replace the filter first as the cheapest fix.
  4. 4Reset the overload relay on the pump motor and try the oil-hole coolant again; if it trips immediately, suspect the motor.
  5. 5Lock out power before opening the electrical cabinet, then check the pump motor windings and the overload relay setting/condition.
  6. 6Verify the ON confirmation (pressure/flow) switch operates when the pump runs and that its signal wiring is intact.
  7. 7If the alarm persists after these checks, record the alarm number and code and contact Okuma service.
