Okuma OSP Alarm C 3137 - MCS DD Encoder (slave sensor) error

MCS DD Encoder (slave sensor) error

The DD encoder slave sensor on the indicated axis (or spindle) can no longer be detected by the control. This alarm applies only to ICB-H specifications and indicates the slave-side position feedback has been lost or is reporting an internal error.

Common Causes

  • Faulty DD encoder slave sensor
  • Gap between sensor and scale too narrow or too wide (codes 42/43)
  • Sensor inclination out of tolerance (codes 40/41)
  • Communication error with the sensor or master sensor (codes 02/21)
  • Initialization speed too high or absolutization failure (codes 04/05/20)

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code XX bit7 = Error bit — 1 indicates an error in the positional data status; code XX bit6 = Absolute position sensor margin error (0 normal, 1 warning); code XX bit5 = Gap warning — 1 gap small, toggling indicates gap too big; code XX bit4 = Inclination warning — 1 CCW big, toggling indicates CW big; code XX bit3 = Auto set mode (0 normal, 1 auto mode); code XX bit2 = Communication error, toggles when detected; code XX bit1,0 = Error bit number of the absolute position code (2 bits); code YY 01 = Stop command has stopped
  2. 2Record the full XXYYZZZZ code: XX is the positional data status (bit7 = error, bit6 = margin warning, bit5 = gap warning, bit4 = inclination warning, bit2 = communication error), YY is the alarm code, ZZZZ is fixed 0000.
  3. 3Branch on the YY value: 42/43 = gap narrow/wide and 40/41 = inclination error — power off, lock out, and inspect the slave sensor mounting; clean the sensor face and scale and correct the mounting gap and alignment.
  4. 4For 02 (communication error) or 21 (master sensor communication error, Format-5 only), check the sensor cable and connectors for damage, looseness or coolant ingress and reseat them.
  5. 5For 04/05 (absolutization error / initialization speed too high), retry initialization at a reduced axis speed; for 08 (auto-set-data error) repeat the auto-set procedure.
  6. 6For 3E/3F (absolute position sensor code/check errors) the sensor itself is suspect — replace the DD encoder slave sensor.
  7. 7If the alarm returns after these checks, record the alarm number, full code and object and contact Okuma service.
