Okuma OSP Alarm C 3144 - MCS Power supply unit overload

MCS Power supply unit overload

The MCS power supply unit has detected an overload condition. The object field shows which axis (or the spindle) was being driven when the supply was overloaded, meaning the machine is demanding more power than the supply unit can deliver.

Common Causes

  • Sustained heavy cutting or rapid cycling overloading the power unit
  • Faulty power supply unit
  • Excessive simultaneous axis/spindle load from the machining cycle

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code 1 = Fixed code; power supply unit overload detected
  2. 2Note the object shown with the alarm to identify which axis or spindle was loading the power supply when it tripped.
  3. 3Review what the machine was doing at the trip: reduce depth of cut, feed rate, or simultaneous axis acceleration if the overload occurred during heavy cutting or aggressive rapids.
  4. 4After the load is reduced, run the same operation and see whether the alarm recurs at the same point in the cycle.
  5. 5If the alarm trips under light or no load, the power unit itself is suspect; before replacing it, lock out the main breaker and allow the DC bus to fully discharge before touching the unit.
  6. 6If it returns after these checks, record the alarm number, code and object and contact Okuma service.
