Okuma OSP Alarm P 0798 - MCS Linear scale 1 initialization failure

MCS Linear scale 1 initialization failure

The MCS drive failed to initialize linear scale 1, a MITUTOYO scale, on the axis named in the alarm object during power-up. The code format XXYYZZZZ matches alarm 0865 'MCS Encoder initialize failed'. The axis has no valid scale feedback until initialization completes.

Common Causes

  • Failed linear scale 1 (MITUTOYO)
  • Encoder link cable or connector fault to the scale
  • Motor encoder or rotary encoder 1 in the same feedback chain
  • Control base of the inverter unit problem

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code XXYYZZZZ = Initialization failure detail; same format as alarm 0865 'MCS Encoder initialize failed'.
  2. 2Record the XXYYZZZZ code and decode it against the alarm 0865 'MCS Encoder initialize failed' format to find which initialization step failed.
  3. 3Inspect the encoder link cable and connectors between linear scale 1 and the inverter unit for damage, oil ingress or bent pins, and reseat both ends.
  4. 4Swap the scale's encoder link cable with a known-good cable to eliminate a wiring fault.
  5. 5If wiring is good, exchange linear scale 1 (MITUTOYO) or check the motor encoder/rotary encoder 1 in the chain with known-good units as the manual's corrective action suggests.
  6. 6If all feedback devices and cables are eliminated, have the control base of the inverter unit checked or exchanged, then power up and re-establish the axis reference.
