Okuma OSP Alarm P 0812 - MCS initialization error

MCS initialization error

An error occurred while the MCS drive system was initializing at power-on. The XXXX code identifies the failure class: channel/servo-link establishment faults, buffer memory or communication LSI errors, ID number conflicts, wrong or missing axis connections, optional file download errors, or initial data buffer errors.

Common Causes

  • Inverter unit fault (check its LED)
  • Improper ID number set in the MCS (duplicate, improper or missing ID)
  • Specification code setting error
  • Erroneous connection with the MCS (wrong axis on the link)
  • Corrupted optional file or initial data on the servo link

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code FFFF = Channel fault; YYYY=00UV where U+1 = faulty channel number, V=1 means servo link mode not established.; code FF01 = Memory error in read/write test of the servo link I/O buffer; character-string shows the address.; code FF00 = Communication LSI error in read/write test of the servo link I/O buffer; YYYY = error status.; code F000 = ID problem; YYYY bits: 7=same ID used, 6=improper ID, 5=missing ID, 4-1=too many CH4-CH1 controllers.; code EF00 = Servo link does not connect all required axes or connects an improper axis; YYYY = required axis controller ID.; code EE00 = Error downloading an optional file; high digit of YYYY = cause, low part = error code.; code ED00 = Error when manual mode switched to auto mode.; code EC01-EC03 = Time difference in setting CH1/CH2/CH3 timer; YYYY = difference.
  2. 2Read the XXXX code: FFFF means a channel fault (YYYY 00UV: U+1 = faulty channel, V=1 means servo link mode not established); FF01/FF00 are servo link I/O buffer memory/communication LSI errors with the address in the character-string; F000 is an ID problem with bits in YYYY.
  3. 3For F000, read the YYYY bits: bit7 same ID used twice, bit6 improper ID, bit5 missing ID, bits 4-1 too many CH4-CH1 controllers; correct the MCS ID number settings and check the connection data shown in the screen center.
  4. 4For EF00, the servo link does not connect all required axes or connects an improper axis: YYYY is the required axis controller ID and the character-string names the problem axis, so check the physical servo link wiring and unit order.
  5. 5For EE00 (optional file download error) and the D0xx initial-data buffer errors, reload the optional file and servo data; check the inverter unit LED as the manual directs.
  6. 6Check the specification code settings for correctness; after correcting IDs, connections or files, cycle power and confirm the MCS initializes all channels cleanly.
