Okuma OSP Alarm P 0783 - MCS Rotary encoder 5 initialization failure

MCS Rotary encoder 5 initialization failure

The MCS drive system could not complete initialization of Rotary encoder 5 (Others) for the axis named in the alarm object. Until the encoder initializes, the control cannot establish position feedback for that axis, so it cannot be operated.

Common Causes

  • Rotary encoder 5 (Others) itself defective
  • Encoder cable or connector damaged, loose, or contaminated between the encoder and the MCS
  • Fault on the MCS side of the encoder feedback circuit

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Note the axis named in the [Object] field so you know which axis's Rotary encoder 5 (Others) failed to initialize.
  2. 2Power down and lock out the machine; allow the drive unit to discharge before touching connectors.
  3. 3Inspect the Rotary encoder 5 cable and connectors for the named axis: reseat both ends, check for bent pins, oil ingress, or a pinched/broken cable, and repair as needed.
  4. 4Restore power and see if the encoder initializes; if the alarm returns, replace Rotary encoder 5 (Others) as directed by the manual.
  5. 5If a new encoder does not clear the fault, record the alarm number and axis object and contact Okuma service to check the MCS feedback circuit.
