KRC0600

KUKA Robot KRC0600 - Target variable must be of type REAL

Target variable must be of type REAL

This alarm occurs when a CREAD or SREAD instruction attempts to store data in a target variable that is not declared as type REAL, or when the data format being read does not match the expected REAL format. The KRC4 system enforces strict type checking to prevent data corruption and ensure proper variable interpretation.

Common Causes

  • Declaring the target variable as INT, BOOL, or another incompatible data type instead of REAL
  • Attempting to read floating-point data from a file or communication channel into an integer variable
  • Using CREAD or SREAD with mismatched format specifiers that do not align with the target variable type
  • Reading data from external sources with formatting that cannot be directly converted to REAL values
  • Forgetting to declare the target variable altogether, causing automatic type assignment that does not default to REAL

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Verify that the target variable in your CREAD or SREAD instruction is explicitly declared as type REAL in the declaration section
  2. 2Check the source data format and confirm it contains valid floating-point numbers compatible with REAL type
  3. 3Review the format string or specifier in the CREAD or SREAD instruction to ensure it matches REAL data format requirements
  4. 4Modify the variable declaration to REAL if it was previously declared as a different type
  5. 5Test the instruction with known valid REAL data to confirm the variable assignment works correctly
  6. 6If converting from other types, implement explicit type conversion logic before assigning to the REAL target variable
