KUKA Robot KRC0466 - READ PROTECTION DUE TO OPERATOR CONTROL UNIT STATUS

READ PROTECTION DUE TO OPERATOR CONTROL UNIT STATUS

This alarm occurs when a program attempts to read a dollar variable prefixed with $ while the operator control unit (OCU) status is not properly configured. The KRC4 controller restricts access to certain system variables based on the current OCU state to prevent unauthorized or unsafe variable access during program execution.

Common Causes

  • Attempting to read $ variables while the KUKA smartPAD is in TEACH mode instead of the required mode
  • OCU connection lost or disconnected before the $ variable read operation completed
  • Program logic error where $ variable access occurs before OCU status handshake is established
  • Incorrect OCU configuration in WorkVisual project settings for the robot cell
  • KRL program reading protected $ variables without proper OCU authorization levels

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Verify the KUKA smartPAD operator control unit is powered on and connected to the KRC4 controller via network or serial connection
  2. 2Check that the OCU selector switch is set to the correct mode required for program execution (typically RUN or AUT)
  3. 3Review the KRL program source code to identify which $ variables are being accessed and confirm they are not restricted
  4. 4Restart the KRC4 controller and allow full boot sequence completion before running the program again
  5. 5Use WorkVisual to verify OCU configuration settings match the physical hardware setup and enable proper variable access permissions
  6. 6If issue persists, perform a complete system reset by initializing the project in WorkVisual and redeploying to the controller
