KRC0418

KUKA Robot KRC0418 - CHANGE REFERENCE DIRECTION <axis number>

CHANGE REFERENCE DIRECTION <axis number>

During single-axis manual referencing, the operator pressed the wrong direction key relative to the configured machine datum stored in the $DIR_CAL parameter. The system detected a direction inconsistency and is prompting correction to prevent incorrect reference offset accumulation.

Common Causes

  • Machine datum direction in $DIR_CAL parameter does not match the physical robot installation or mechanical zero position
  • Operator confusion regarding which direction key corresponds to positive motion relative to the configured machine datum
  • Joint calibration was performed with reversed mechanical limits causing the direction parameters to be inverted
  • Mechanical collision or interference prevents normal motion in the expected direction, forcing the operator to move opposite
  • $DIR_CAL system parameter was manually edited incorrectly or loaded from a configuration backup for a different robot variant

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Press the opposite direction key to move in the direction required by the $DIR_CAL machine datum configuration
  2. 2Verify the current $DIR_CAL direction values in the system parameters by checking the Diagnosis menu on KUKA smartPAD
  3. 3Physically verify that the robot can move freely in both directions without mechanical obstruction or collision
  4. 4Compare the current $DIR_CAL settings against the original commissioning documentation for the specific robot installation
  5. 5If direction values appear incorrect, recalibrate the joint by performing a full axis reference cycle from the initial position
  6. 6Contact KUKA service to verify or correct the $DIR_CAL parameters if the mechanical datum does not match the software configuration
