KRC0358

KUKA Robot KRC0358 - ACKN. FAILURE OF MOTOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR <axis number>

ACKN. FAILURE OF MOTOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR <axis number>

This alarm indicates that the motor temperature sensor (thermistor or PT100) for the specified axis has failed or is not responding to the KRC controller's acknowledgment request. The controller continuously monitors motor thermal conditions and cannot verify sensor functionality, preventing safe axis operation. This is a safety-critical fault that requires immediate attention as motor temperature monitoring is essential for thermal overload protection.

Common Causes

  • Open circuit or broken connection in the motor temperature sensor wiring harness
  • Faulty or degraded temperature sensor element (thermistor/PT100 resistance drift)
  • Loose or corroded connector pins at the motor terminal box or controller interface
  • Motor feedback cable damaged due to wear, pinching, or environmental exposure
  • Failed analog input module or sensor signal conditioning circuit in the KRC control cabinet

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Verify the alarm persists and note the exact axis number; check the KRC diagnostic display for additional fault codes related to analog inputs
  2. 2Inspect the motor temperature sensor connector and wiring harness for visible damage, corrosion, or loose connections on both the motor and controller sides
  3. 3Use a multimeter to measure the sensor resistance at room temperature (should match specification: typically 100Ω at 0°C for PT100 or appropriate ohm range for thermistor)
  4. 4Perform a continuity test on the entire sensor cable run from motor to controller input terminal to identify breaks or high-resistance joints
  5. 5Disconnect and reconnect all sensor connectors firmly, applying dielectric grease if necessary; cycle controller power and observe if alarm clears
  6. 6If alarm persists after connector verification, replace the motor temperature sensor or the affected motor unit; update controller firmware if available and perform sensor recalibration through KRC configuration
