KRC0303

KUKA Robot KRC0303 - STATIC MOTOR TORQUE OVERLOAD <axis number> BY <percentage value>

STATIC MOTOR TORQUE OVERLOAD <axis number> BY <percentage value>

This alarm indicates that the static motor torque on the specified axis has exceeded the maximum permissible torque rating by the indicated percentage value. The controller continuously monitors actual motor torque demand and triggers this alarm when the sustained load requirement exceeds the motor's rated capacity, which can occur during static holding, loaded positioning, or excessive payload application.

Common Causes

  • Payload exceeds the robot's maximum rated load specification
  • Tool or end-effector weight is not properly configured in the system data
  • Gravitational load on vertical axes (particularly axis 3) due to incorrect mass parameters
  • Robot positioned in a configuration with poor mechanical leverage or unfavorable moment arm
  • Friction or mechanical binding in joint transmission, gearbox, or bearing causing increased torque demand

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Verify the actual payload weight against the robot's specification sheet and confirm it does not exceed maximum rated capacity
  2. 2Check the tool data (tool mass and center of gravity) in the robot's parameter configuration using $LOAD and $TOOL variables
  3. 3Inspect the robot's current position and move to a mechanically advantageous configuration (e.g., move vertical axes to reduce gravitational moment)
  4. 4Perform a joint inspection for mechanical resistance by manually cycling each axis (with teach pendant in T1 mode) and feeling for unusual friction or binding
  5. 5Review the motion program for commanded positions that place excessive bending moments on the affected axis and optimize the trajectory path
  6. 6Reset the alarm after correcting the load condition using the controller's reset function and verify the torque reading returns to acceptable levels during idle operation
