KRC0283

KUKA Robot KRC0283 - DYNAMIC BRAKING

DYNAMIC BRAKING

During an active Emergency Stop condition, a fault has occurred in the braking system that forces the robot to use maximum dynamic braking instead of controlled electromechanical brake application. This indicates reduced braking performance and potential safety concern.

Common Causes

  • Electromechanical brake on affected axis failed to engage due to solenoid coil open circuit or stuck mechanism
  • Emergency Stop signal received but brake power supply voltage dropped below minimum 24V threshold
  • Brake spring tension weakened or mechanical linkage frozen preventing normal brake pad engagement
  • Dynamic braking resistor activated as fallback but main brake system unavailable or disabled
  • SafeOperation monitoring or SIL-certified braking validation fault preventing standard brake confirmation

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Acknowledge KRC0283 alarm and stop all robot motion immediately using teach pendant STOP button
  2. 2Measure 24V DC brake solenoid supply voltage at connector while Emergency Stop is active
  3. 3Listen for audible solenoid click when Emergency Stop triggered - absence indicates solenoid failure
  4. 4Inspect brake mechanical linkage and pad wear using visual inspection after power isolation
  5. 5Review SafeOperation brake validation logs in KRC diagnostics to identify specific brake circuit fault
  6. 6Replace electromechanical brake assembly or 24V solenoid valve if voltage is present but brake fails to engage
