KUKA Robot KRC0281 - ACKN. HEATSINK TEMPERATURE <axis number: AX>

ACKN. HEATSINK TEMPERATURE <axis number: AX>

A heat sink temperature sensor on the specified axis has detected a critical temperature exceeding 80 degrees Celsius as reported by the DSE board. This thermal fault indicates excessive drive module heat generation and requires immediate load reduction or cooling.

Common Causes

  • Drive module power dissipation excessive due to sustained high-current axis operations
  • Heat sink thermal compound dried out or delaminated reducing transfer efficiency to cooling fans
  • Drive module cooling fan failed or running at reduced speed due to bearing wear
  • Blocked heat sink fins with dust, debris, or manufacturing residue preventing air circulation
  • Ambient temperature in controller enclosure exceeds design limits or cooling system malfunction

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Reduce robot cycle time and motion velocity to lower continuous current draw on affected axis
  2. 2Power down system and allow heat sink to cool below 40 degrees Celsius before restart
  3. 3Clean heat sink cooling fins using compressed air to remove dust and debris blockage
  4. 4Verify cooling fan is spinning freely and measure fan motor voltage to ensure proper operation
  5. 5Check controller cabinet ambient temperature sensor and verify air conditioning unit is functioning
  6. 6Replace heat sink assembly or cooling fan if temperature remains elevated after cleaning and ambient correction
