KRC0258

KUKA Robot KRC0258 - SENSOR LOCATION SEARCH INVALID <axis number>

SENSOR LOCATION SEARCH INVALID <axis number>

The sensor location search command cannot execute because the specified axis has not been properly mastered or was mastered using an incompatible method. This alarm prevents automatic sensor position detection and must be resolved through proper axis initialization procedures.

Common Causes

  • Axis has not undergone any mastering procedure since power-up or system reset
  • Last mastering operation used sensor adjustment method instead of absolute encoder reference
  • Encoder or position feedback device was replaced without performing new absolute mastering
  • KRC4 controller lost absolute position reference data due to power failure or firmware update
  • Incorrect mastering type selected in WorkVisual during axis configuration

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Verify the current mastering status of the affected axis using the Diagnosis menu on the KUKA smartPAD
  2. 2Perform a complete absolute mastering procedure for the affected axis using the reference position method
  3. 3Ensure the mastering type in WorkVisual is set to absolute encoder mastering, not sensor adjustment mode
  4. 4Clear the mastering data and perform a fresh mastering cycle if reference marks are accessible
  5. 5Test sensor location search on a different axis to confirm the controller function operates correctly
  6. 6If the sensor location search still fails, verify the encoder hardware and wiring with a multimeter
