KUKA Robot KRC0213 - ACKN BRAKE DEFECTIVE **

ACKN BRAKE DEFECTIVE **

The ACKN BRAKE DEFECTIVE alarm indicates that the holding brake on one or more robot axes has detected abnormal wear or mechanical failure. This alarm is triggered when brake wear sensors exceed threshold values or when the brake fails to engage/disengage properly during normal operation, preventing safe axis holding and risking uncontrolled axis movement.

Common Causes

  • Excessive brake wear from repeated thermal cycles and duty cycles
  • Contamination or debris on brake friction surfaces
  • Brake spring failure or loss of spring tension
  • Defective brake wear sensor providing false signals
  • Improper brake adjustment or calibration parameters

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Stop robot operation immediately and secure all axes in safe position
  2. 2Check brake wear sensor status and connections on the affected axis motor coupling
  3. 3Inspect brake assembly visually for signs of wear, overheating, or mechanical damage
  4. 4Reset the brake wear counter in the KRC controller diagnostic menu and observe if alarm recurs
  5. 5Perform brake functionality test using KRC teach pendant diagnostics to verify engagement/disengagement response
  6. 6If alarm persists, schedule brake replacement service as the brake assembly has reached end-of-life and requires component replacement
