KRC0217

KUKA Robot KRC0217 - Emergency Stop from KRC (ALARM STOP)

Emergency Stop from KRC (ALARM STOP)

This alarm indicates that an emergency stop condition was triggered from the KRC cabinet itself, either via the E-STOP button on the smartPAD or the cabinet-mounted emergency stop pushbutton. The safety circuit chain opened, causing immediate motor shutdown and brake engagement. This is a controlled safety stop requiring investigation of why emergency stop was necessary.

Common Causes

  • Operator intentionally pressed E-STOP button on smartPAD or cabinet due to perceived hazard or unexpected robot motion
  • Intermittent contact or mechanical failure in smartPAD E-STOP button mechanism causing unintended triggering during operation
  • Loose or corroded wiring connections at X11 safety plug on KRC cabinet causing momentary circuit opening interpreted as E-STOP
  • Defective cable between smartPAD and KRC cabinet (XSP connector) with broken conductors in safety circuit channels
  • Safety configuration error in WorkVisual where E-STOP monitoring time parameters are set too sensitive causing false triggering from voltage transients

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Step 1: Interview operator to confirm whether E-STOP was intentional and document the reason for activation in maintenance log
  2. 2Step 2: Visually inspect smartPAD E-STOP button for mechanical damage, verify button fully releases with audible click and does not stick in depressed position
  3. 3Step 3: Access smartPAD Diagnosis -> Safety -> Emergency Stop Inputs and monitor status of all E-STOP channels while gently manipulating cables and connections
  4. 4Step 4: Check X11 safety connector pins on KRC cabinet for corrosion or loose crimps, measure continuity through entire E-STOP circuit with multimeter in both button states
  5. 5Step 5: Swap smartPAD with known-good unit or inspect XSP cable for internal conductor breaks using continuity test on each pin while flexing cable along its length
  6. 6Step 6: Review WorkVisual safety configuration parameters including EMERGENCY_STOP monitoring settings and compare against baseline backup to identify unauthorized changes
