KRC0221

KUKA Robot KRC0221 - KCP: CAN BUS ERROR

KCP: CAN BUS ERROR

This alarm indicates a transmission error detected on the CAN BUS communication network between the KCP (KUKA Control Panel) and the KRC controller. The CAN BUS is critical for real-time data exchange between the teach pendant and the robot controller, and this error suggests signal integrity or connectivity issues in the communication protocol. When this alarm occurs, the robot may lose responsiveness to teach pendant commands or experience loss of critical sensor data.

Common Causes

  • Damaged or loose CAN BUS cable connection between KCP and KRC controller
  • CAN BUS termination resistor failure or incorrect termination configuration
  • Electromagnetic interference (EMI) from nearby welding equipment or high-power drives
  • Corrupted CAN BUS node configuration or outdated firmware version
  • Defective CAN transceiver chip on the KCP or controller PCB

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Power down the robot system completely and visually inspect all CAN BUS cabling for physical damage, corrosion, or loose connectors at both the KCP and KRC controller
  2. 2Verify CAN BUS termination resistors are properly installed at both ends of the CAN network (typically 120 ohms) using a multimeter
  3. 3Disconnect and reconnect all CAN BUS connectors firmly, ensuring proper seating and locking mechanisms are engaged
  4. 4Check for sources of electromagnetic interference near the CAN BUS cables and relocate or shield cables if necessary away from welding equipment or AC servo drives
  5. 5Perform a controller restart by power-cycling the system and clear the alarm; if it recurs immediately, access the diagnostics menu to check CAN BUS signal quality and node status
  6. 6If the alarm persists after these steps, update the KRC controller firmware to the latest stable version, or contact KUKA service for potential hardware replacement of the KCP or controller CAN module
