KUKA Robot KRC0029 - PERFORM MASTERING ** !

PERFORM MASTERING ** !

Perform Mastering alarm indicates that the encoder position after a system restart has drifted too far from the expected value and the robot cannot automatically recalibrate sensor position because a sensor location reference run has not been executed. The robot cannot safely operate until position mastering is manually performed through the calibration procedure.

Common Causes

  • Robot power was removed or system emergency stop was triggered while robot was in motion, causing loss of absolute position reference in encoder feedback
  • Encoder cable was disconnected or became loose during previous operation and position synchronization was lost between motor and KRC4 position memory
  • Motor shaft or gearbox slipped due to excessive external load or collision that moved the actual arm position without corresponding encoder feedback increment
  • Previous mastering procedure was incomplete or sensor location reference run was skipped during initial robot commissioning or after a major repair
  • Encoder battery backup module has failed or depleted causing loss of absolute position memory in multi-turn resolver feedback system

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Verify that the robot is in a safe teach position with arm fully supported and no risk of unexpected motion before attempting any mastering procedure
  2. 2Access the Maintenance menu on KUKA smartPAD and navigate to the Mastering submenu to view the current position offset error and affected axis information
  3. 3Manually drive the robot to the defined mastering reference position using teach pendant in manual jog mode with reduced speed and follow on-screen prompts
  4. 4Execute the sensor location reference run procedure through KUKA smartPAD which will guide you through moving each axis to its calibration marker or home position
  5. 5After completing the reference run, initiate the automatic mastering calculation in KUKA smartPAD which will resynchronize all encoder values to the actual mechanical position
  6. 6Perform a slow teach program validation movement through all axes in the work envelope to confirm that position feedback is now stable and mastering was successful before resuming production
