Access machine parameters

Press MOD key, select 'Machine Parameters' from menu, navigate to communication parameters section 7200-7299.

Use search function by pressing GOTO and entering parameter number directly

Check RS232 baud rate setting

Verify MP7210 (RS232 baud rate) current setting. Common values: 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600, 19200 baud.

Document current settings before making changes

Check RS422/485 baud rate setting

Verify MP7220 (RS422/485 baud rate) and ensure it's compatible with MP7210 for simultaneous operation.

Adjust baud rates for compatibility

Set both interfaces to compatible baud rates, typically matching values or ensuring adequate timing separation. Power cycle control after changes.

Lower baud rates (9600 or below) typically have better compatibility for simultaneous use

Identify active communication software

Check which DNC, CAM, or data transfer software is currently connected to both serial interfaces on the TNC control.

Disconnect external devices before troubleshooting to isolate the issue

Review software communication settings

In DNC software, verify that RS232 and RS422 port configurations match the TNC machine parameters MP7210 and MP7220.

Many DNC packages default to auto-detect which can cause conflicts

Configure single interface operation

Temporarily disable one interface in the DNC software to test if alarm clears, then reconfigure for proper dual-interface operation.

Implement proper handshaking

Enable RTS/CTS or XON/XOFF handshaking in both TNC parameters (MP7211, MP7221) and external software to prevent transmission conflicts.

Power down control before checking interface card connections

Verify interface card parameters

Access Setup → Communication → Interface Configuration to verify hardware interface settings match physical installation.

Test individual interfaces

Disconnect one interface at a time and test communication to isolate which interface is causing the baud rate conflict.

Replace suspect interface hardware

If timing mismatch persists, replace RS232 or RS422 interface card/converter with known good hardware.

Keep spare interface cards calibrated to machine-specific baud rate requirements

Press HELP key, select 'Version Info' to verify current TNC software version and check for known communication issues.

Reduce communication buffer load

Temporarily lower both baud rates (MP7210, MP7220) to 4800 or 2400 baud to reduce buffer throughput requirements.

Clear communication buffers

Power cycle the TNC control completely (not just reset) to clear internal communication buffers and reinitialize interfaces.

Implement staggered communication

Configure external devices to use time-division communication rather than simultaneous transmission to both interfaces.
