HEIDENHAIN 2A0-0008 - LSV2: Transmission error

LSV2: Transmission error

This TNC7/TNC 640 error indicates a communication-related condition. Checksum error in the received telegram The control has detected an issue that requires investigation.

Root Cause Summary

This alarm is triggered by disrupted LSV2 protocol communication between the Heidenhain TNC control and external PC-based applications. The most common root causes are physical network interruptions, software client crashes, or protocol version mismatches that prevent proper packet exchange over the LSV2 interface used for file transfer, remote control, and data acquisition functions.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Inspect Ethernet Cable and Connections

Check the Ethernet cable connected to X26 (TNC 320/530/620/640) or X116 (iTNC 530) port. Verify both RJ45 connectors are fully seated and locking tabs are intact. Examine cable for visible damage, pinching, or sharp bends near connectors.

Use a known-good Cat5e or Cat6 cable for testing. Cheap or damaged cables can cause intermittent packet loss that manifests as LSV2 transmission errors.

  2. 2

    Verify Network Switch Port Status

Check the network switch port LEDs where the TNC is connected. Both Link LED (solid green) and Activity LED (blinking amber/green) should be active. If link is down, test with a different switch port or directly connect PC to control.

Do not hot-swap Ethernet cables while LSV2 sessions are active during production—this will trigger this alarm and may corrupt file transfers.

  3. 3

    Test Network from Control

Access MOD key → select 'Diagnose' → 'Network' → 'PING'. Enter the IP address of the PC or server running LSV2 client. Successful ping confirms physical layer is operational. Packet loss >0% indicates network issues.

Document baseline ping response times (typically <5ms on local network). Higher latency suggests network congestion or switch issues.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·TNC Ethernet hardware replacement needed
  • ·Complex network infrastructure issues
  • ·Persistent errors after cable and configuration checks

Prevention

  • Use high-quality shielded Ethernet cables
  • Implement proper EMC practices in cable routing
  • Regular network connection maintenance
  • Monitor LSV2 communication logs for early warning signs

Common Mistakes

  • Using unshielded Ethernet cables in industrial environment
  • Running network cables parallel to motor power cables
  • Setting LSV2 timeouts too aggressively
  • Ignoring EMI sources during installation
