HEIDENHAIN 251-0E36 - Trigger condition Signal [SAVED] not fulfilled in reference trace

Trigger condition Signal [SAVED] not fulfilled in reference trace

A signal was marked as SAVED but the reference trace trigger condition was never satisfied. Chronological association is not possible.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 251-0E36 occurs when the TNC control attempts to save a reference trace signal without meeting the proper trigger conditions. This typically happens during axis referencing operations when the reference mark detection logic fails or when encoder signal integrity is compromised.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check encoder cable connections

Inspect all encoder cable connections at motor and TNC input modules. Verify proper shielding and cable routing away from power cables.

Power down system before checking connections to prevent damage

  2. 2

Verify reference mark signals in MOD function

Access Setup > MOD Functions > Encoder Test and monitor the R signal during manual axis movement. The R signal should pulse once per encoder revolution.

Use oscilloscope on encoder inputs if TNC diagnostics show intermittent R signals

  3. 3

    Check encoder supply voltage

Measure encoder supply voltage at TNC terminals. Should be 5V ±0.25V for TTL encoders or per encoder specifications for 1Vpp types.

  4. 4

    Perform encoder signal quality test

Use TNC encoder test function to verify signal amplitude and phase relationships. A and B signals should be 90° phase shifted with proper amplitude.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Encoder replacement required
  • ·TNC hardware failure suspected
  • ·Drive amplifier replacement needed

Prevention

  • Regular encoder cable inspection
  • Maintain proper cable routing
  • Keep system backups current
  • Monitor encoder signal quality during PM

Common Mistakes

  • Ignoring encoder cable shielding
  • Incorrect MP parameter copying between axes
  • Not clearing alarm history before troubleshooting
