HEIDENHAIN 235-00AF - Extra inverter at HSCI device

Extra inverter at HSCI device

Extra inverters are connected to an HSCI device that were not configured. Due to ambiguities, the exact extra inverters cannot be precisely identified.

Root Cause Summary

This alarm is triggered by a mismatch between the physical HSCI component topology and the expected configuration defined in the control's system files. The control detected an inverter module on the HSCI bus that either has an incorrect address, is not properly configured in the SIK files, or represents hardware that was added/changed without corresponding software configuration updates.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Access system configuration mode

Power up the control while holding the MOD key to enter Service/Manufacturing mode. Navigate to MOD → System → Configuration → HSCI Components.

Entering MOD functions requires manufacturer or service-level password. Document existing settings before making changes.

  2. 2

    Review current HSCI topology

View the detected devices list showing all components found on HSCI bus. Note the device address (00AF indicates address position) of the unexpected inverter module.

The alarm code suffix (00AF) typically indicates the HSCI address or position where the extra device was detected.

  3. 3

    Update SIK configuration file

Edit the SIK5.SYS (or machine-specific SIK file) to add the inverter module definition at the correct address position with proper component type designation (e.g., UM1x4 or UM1x8 depending on model).

Always create a backup of the original SIK file before editing. Save to USB using TNC → File Management → Backup function.

  4. 4

    Reload configuration and restart

After saving the updated SIK file, execute a full control restart (power cycle). The control will re-read the configuration and verify the HSCI topology matches the new SIK definition.

Complete restart required - use controlled shutdown procedure to avoid data loss.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Parameter changes don't resolve alarm
  • ·Multiple HSCI communication errors persist
  • ·Unsure about hardware configuration changes

Prevention

  • Document all hardware changes in machine parameter backup
  • Verify HSCI configuration before connecting new inverters
  • Maintain updated electrical schematics showing HSCI topology

Common Mistakes

  • Forgetting to restart control after parameter changes
  • Not updating both device count and device type parameters
  • Ignoring HSCI address switch settings on inverter modules
