HEIDENHAIN 235-00AD - Inverter not found at HSCI device

Inverter not found at HSCI device

Configured inverters are missing from an HSCI device. Due to ambiguities, the exact missing inverters cannot be precisely identified.

Root Cause Summary

This alarm occurs when the TNC control cannot establish or maintain HSCI communication with an inverter module that is configured in the system. The root cause is typically a physical connection issue, power supply problem, or addressing mismatch preventing the inverter from responding to HSCI bus requests at its assigned device address.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Inspect HSCI cable connections

Power off the system. Check all HSCI cable connections between TNC and inverter module. Verify the distinctive Heidenhain HSCI connectors (typically Sub-D or circular connectors with locking mechanism) are fully seated and locking tabs engaged. Inspect cable for physical damage, especially near connectors.

Always power down control and drives before disconnecting HSCI cables to prevent bus errors or component damage.

  2. 2

    Verify cable shield continuity

Using a multimeter, verify cable shield continuity from end to end. HSCI cables require intact shielding for noise immunity. Check that shield is properly connected to backshells at both ends.

Heidenhain HSCI cables are directional in some configurations - verify 'IN' and 'OUT' markings if present on connectors match the signal flow direction.

  3. 3

    Test with known-good cable

If available, temporarily replace the HSCI cable with a known-good spare cable of appropriate length. Heidenhain specifies maximum HSCI cable lengths - typically 10m per segment without repeaters.

Keep a spare HSCI cable in your service kit - these proprietary cables are a common failure point and cannot be field-fabricated reliably.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Multiple inverters failing simultaneously
  • ·Repeated failures after parameter corrections
  • ·Suspected TNC control unit HSCI interface failure

Prevention

  • Regular HSCI cable inspection during PM schedules
  • Maintain proper cable routing separation
  • Document all machine parameter changes
  • Perform periodic termination resistance checks

Common Mistakes

  • Modifying machine parameters without backup
  • Using non-Heidenhain HSCI cables
  • Incorrect bus termination installation
  • Ignoring EMI shielding requirements
