HEIDENHAIN 235-00AA - Connected inverters do not match configuration

Connected inverters do not match configuration

The connected inverters in an HSCI device do not match the configuration. The deviation is too large for the control to identify specific issues.

Root Cause Summary

This alarm indicates a fundamental mismatch between what the TNC control expects to find based on its stored configuration and what it actually detects on the DRIVE communication bus during initialization. The control cannot proceed with operation because the axis-to-inverter mapping is unreliable, which would create safety and positioning issues. Resolution requires either updating the configuration to match the hardware or correcting the hardware installation to match the configuration.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Access MOD function

Switch the mode selector to MOD position. Navigate to 'System Parameters' and access the machine parameter editor. You need appropriate access level (typically OEM password required).

Modifying drive configuration parameters requires machine shutdown and may affect all axes. Document current settings before making changes.

  2. 2

    Review MP7200 drive configuration

Examine MP7200 (drive system configuration), MP7210 (number of configured axes/spindles), and subsequent parameters that define which inverter modules are expected at which positions on the DRIVE bus.

Write down the current MP7200 series values and physically verify each inverter module type and position in the cabinet. Module labels show type (UM1xx or UM2xx series).

  3. 3

    Check detected hardware in diagnostics

In MOD mode, navigate to 'Diagnosis' → 'Drive System' → 'Hardware Configuration' to view what the control actually detected on the DRIVE bus. Compare this against the MP7200 series parameters.

The diagnostic screen shows inverter serial numbers and firmware versions. Mismatches in module count or type will be immediately visible here.

  4. 4

    Correct configuration parameters

Update MP7200 series parameters to match the physically installed hardware. If you replaced a drive module, ensure the replacement is the same type or update the corresponding MP72xx parameter for that drive position.

After changing drive configuration parameters, a full power cycle (not just control restart) is required for changes to take effect.

  5. 5

    Verify axis assignments

Check MP7500-MP7599 to ensure each axis is assigned to the correct drive module number. MP7501 assigns axis X, MP7502 assigns axis Y, etc. The drive number must correspond to a valid configured inverter in MP7200 series.

On multi-axis machines, drawing a simple diagram of axis-to-drive-to-physical-location mapping before troubleshooting saves time.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Hardware auto-detection fails repeatedly
  • ·Physical inverter replacement required
  • ·HSCI bus hardware failure suspected

Prevention

  • Document hardware configuration before maintenance
  • Verify inverter compatibility before replacement
  • Regular backup of machine parameters
  • Label HSCI addresses clearly on hardware

Common Mistakes

  • Changing hardware without updating TNC configuration
  • Incorrect HSCI address switch settings
  • Using incompatible inverter models
  • Not performing proper TNC restart after configuration changes
