HEIDENHAIN 231-D300 - D300 Data transm. SPL to CC, CRC error at HSCI addr.

D300 Data transm. SPL to CC, CRC error at HSCI addr.

This TNC7/TNC 640 communication error indicates a problem with the HSCI bus or device communication. HSCI connecting cable is defective or not connected

Root Cause Summary

The root cause is a communication integrity failure on the HSCI bus between the main Contouring Control and the Signal Processing Link board. This is typically caused by poor electrical connections, cable defects, electromagnetic interference, or hardware failure on either the SPL or CC boards. The CRC error specifically indicates that data packets are being corrupted during transmission.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Power down the control safely

Switch off the main power to the control and wait at least 5 minutes for capacitors to discharge before opening the cabinet.

Ensure proper lockout/tagout procedures. High voltage remains present after power-off.

  2. 2

    Inspect HSCI cable connections

Locate the X116/X117 connectors on both the CC board and the SPL board indicated by the HSCI address in the alarm. Examine for bent pins, corrosion, or physical damage.

Use a flashlight to inspect the connector pins carefully. Even slight bending can cause intermittent CRC errors.

  3. 3

    Reseat HSCI ribbon cables

Disconnect and reconnect the X116/X117 HSCI ribbon cables at both ends, ensuring they are fully seated with the locking tabs engaged. Check for cable strain or pinching.

Mark cable orientation before removal to ensure correct reinstallation. The ribbon cable has a specific pin 1 orientation.

  4. 4

    Power up and verify

Restore power to the control and monitor for alarm recurrence. Check Service>System Info>Communication Status to verify HSCI link status.

Allow the control to run for at least 30 minutes under normal operation to confirm the issue is resolved.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Safe PL module replacement required
  • ·Safety system commissioning needed
  • ·Multiple HSCI addresses showing errors

Prevention

  • Regular HSCI cable inspection during PM
  • Maintain proper EMI separation
  • Monitor Safe PL diagnostic counters monthly
  • Keep spare HSCI cables in inventory

Common Mistakes

  • Ignoring EMI sources during installation
  • Using non-HEIDENHAIN HSCI cables
  • Improper shield grounding
  • Not backing up PL configuration before changes
