HEIDENHAIN 230-050D - Limit switch (axis not referenced)

Limit switch (axis not referenced)

Software limit switch monitoring is active for a non-referenced axis. Acknowledging permits traverse past the limit.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 230-050D occurs when the TNC system detects that software limit switch monitoring is active on an axis that has not been properly referenced to its home position. The system prevents movement beyond software limits until the axis is referenced or the alarm is acknowledged.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check Reference Status

Press POS key and verify the REF column shows asterisks (*) for all axes. Missing asterisks indicate unreferenced axes.

The position display will show question marks (?) for unreferenced axes in older TNC versions.

  2. 2

    Execute Reference Run

Select Manual mode, press REF key, then press NC START to reference all axes. Ensure reference switches are functioning properly.

Clear the work area before referencing - axes will move to reference positions automatically.

  3. 3

    Verify Software Limits

After referencing, check machine parameters MP1010-MP1013 (software limit switches) are properly configured for each axis.

Software limits should be set slightly inside the hardware limit switch positions for safety margin.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Encoder hardware failure confirmed
  • ·Machine parameter corruption
  • ·PLC programming modifications required

Prevention

  • Always complete reference run after power-up before machining
  • Regularly verify software limit parameters match machine travel
  • Maintain reference switches and keep actuator areas clean

Common Mistakes

  • Acknowledging alarm without addressing root cause
  • Modifying software limits without proper documentation
  • Ignoring reference switch maintenance until failure occurs
