140-0010

HEIDENHAIN 140-0010 - Module has no general write access.

Module has no general write access.

The module attempted to enable general write protection, but protection is already active and cannot be set again. This is a redundant protection request.

Root Cause Summary

The root cause is insufficient write permissions for a specific TNC software module attempting to modify protected system data, configuration files, or memory areas. This is usually either a deliberate access restriction requiring higher user privileges, physical write-protection of storage media, or corrupted permission structures within the TNC operating system preventing legitimate write operations.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check Current Access Level

Press MOD key, select 'System Information' and check displayed access level. Level 2 or 3 indicates restricted operator access.

The current access level is also visible in the top status bar of the TNC screen on most control versions.

  2. 2

    Access OEM Login

Press MOD key, select 'Login' or 'User Management', and enter OEM password to elevate privileges. Contact machine tool builder if password is unknown.

Only authorized personnel should access OEM level. Incorrect parameter changes can damage the machine or create safety hazards.

  3. 3

    Verify Password Configuration File

Check TNC:\system\password.sys file exists and is not corrupted. This file manages access level permissions and module write rights.

If password.sys is missing or corrupted, the control defaults to maximum security restrictions for all modules.

  4. 4

    Retry Operation with Elevated Access

After logging in with appropriate OEM credentials, acknowledge the alarm and retry the operation that triggered the write access error.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·PLC program modifications required
  • ·Machine parameter defaults unknown
  • ·Repeated alarm after all troubleshooting steps

Prevention

  • Always complete configuration changes before enabling write protection
  • Ensure only one user accesses configuration at a time
  • Document write protection unlock codes securely

Common Mistakes

  • Attempting configuration changes while write protection is active
  • Not checking for remote connections during configuration
  • Modifying MP7680 without understanding current protection scheme
