HAAS Alarm 44 - Coolant Supply System Fault Detection

Coolant System Pressure or Flow Error

This alarm triggers when the coolant system pressure switch or flow sensor signal to the IOCON board indicates insufficient coolant pressure or flow rate. The control monitors coolant system status to prevent tool damage or inadequate chip clearing during machining operations. The machine will typically pause or prevent cycle start until coolant system operation is restored to acceptable parameters.

Root Cause Summary

Haas Alarm 44 triggers when the coolant pressure switch (M64/M65) detects insufficient pressure or flow to maintain safe spindle operation. The NGC control monitors coolant system status through dedicated I/O and will halt spindle rotation when pressure drops below the minimum threshold set in system parameters.

Safety

  • Do not operate spindle without coolant flow to prevent tool overheating and potential tool breakage
  • Ensure coolant pump is off before opening any lines or filter bowls to prevent pressurized spray
  • Wear nitrile gloves when handling coolant as it may irritate skin; wash exposed areas immediately

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check Physical Coolant Level

Visually inspect coolant tank level. Most Haas machines require minimum 2-3 inches above pump intake to maintain proper flow.

Never run coolant pump dry as this will damage the impeller

  2. 2

    Verify Level Sensor Operation

Navigate to CURRENT COMMANDS > I/O and check coolant level input status. Signal should show active when tank is full.

Clean level sensor probe with degreaser if readings are inconsistent

  3. 3

    Refill and Test System

Add appropriate coolant mixture and test M08 command. Monitor pressure gauge during spindle operation to confirm adequate flow.

Use 5-10% coolant concentration for most applications unless specified otherwise

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Pump motor replacement required
  • ·Electrical troubleshooting needed
  • ·Pressure switch calibration issues

Prevention

  • Monitor coolant level daily
  • Replace filters every 3-6 months
  • Use proper coolant concentration
  • Clean nozzles weekly

Common Mistakes

  • Running pump dry
  • Using wrong coolant mixture
  • Ignoring gradual pressure loss
  • Over-tightening filter housing
