HAAS Alarm 45 - Machine Lubrication System Fault

Lubrication System Pressure Low

The MOCON board has detected insufficient pressure from the automatic lubrication system that services the machine ways and ballscrews. This alarm is triggered when the pressure switch input on IOCON does not register adequate pressure within the programmed time window after the lube pump activates. The machine will not allow cycle start until proper lubrication system pressure is restored and verified.

Root Cause Summary

Haas Alarm 45 fires when the automatic lubrication system pressure switch detects insufficient pressure to deliver oil to critical machine components. The NGC control monitors lubrication pressure through a dedicated input and triggers this alarm when pressure drops below the minimum threshold required for proper spindle, ballscrew, and way lubrication.

Safety

  • Do not continue machine operation with low lubrication pressure to prevent bearing damage and seizure
  • Turn off lubrication pump before opening reservoir or filter bowls to prevent pressurized spray
  • Dispose of used machine oil properly at approved waste facility; do not pour down drain

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check Oil Level

Open electrical cabinet and visually inspect the clear oil reservoir tank mounted near the lubrication pump. Oil level should be visible above minimum mark.

Ensure main power is locked out before opening electrical cabinet

  2. 2

    Refill Reservoir

If empty, refill with Haas-approved Way Oil (Mobil Vactra #2 or equivalent ISO 68 slideway oil). Fill to maximum line on reservoir.

Use a funnel to prevent spillage and contamination

  3. 3

    Prime System

After refilling, manually cycle the lubrication pump using the LUBE button on the control panel or through CURRENT COMMANDS > COOLANT/LUBE menu to prime the system.

May take several cycles to fully prime if system was completely empty

  4. 4

    Reset Alarm

Press RESET button and verify alarm clears. Monitor pressure gauge if equipped to confirm proper operating pressure (typically 15-25 PSI).

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Pump replacement required
  • ·Electrical troubleshooting beyond basic checks
  • ·System contamination requiring complete overhaul

Prevention

  • Check oil level weekly during daily maintenance
  • Use only Haas-approved way oil (ISO 68)
  • Monitor lubrication system operation during warm-up cycle
  • Replace oil annually or per maintenance schedule

Common Mistakes

  • Using wrong oil viscosity
  • Ignoring low oil level warnings
  • Not priming system after refilling
  • Mixing different oil types
