Haas 420 - PROGRAM NUMBER MISMATCH | Haas CNC Alarm
Haas Alarm 420 fires when the NGC control detects a fault in the live tool spindle motor circuit, typically due to overcurrent conditions, encoder feedback loss, or drive amplifier protection events. The alarm prevents live tool activation to protect the motor and drive hardware from damage during C-axis positioning or live tool operations.
Haas 420 - PROGRAM NUMBER MISMATCH | Haas CNC Alarm
PROGRAM NUMBER MISMATCH
This alarm occurs when the machine control detects a mismatch between the program number being called via M98 or other subroutine call and the actual program number header (O-code) in memory. The MOCON validates program number integrity during subroutine execution to prevent logic errors. The machine will halt program execution until the mismatch is resolved.
Root Cause Summary
Haas Alarm 420 fires when the NGC control detects a fault in the live tool spindle motor circuit, typically due to overcurrent conditions, encoder feedback loss, or drive amplifier protection events. The alarm prevents live tool activation to protect the motor and drive hardware from damage during C-axis positioning or live tool operations.
Safety
Causes and Fixes
Check Live Tool Motor Connections
Navigate to DIAGNOSTICS > I/O and verify live tool motor cable connections at the motor junction box and drive amplifier. Look for loose, corroded, or damaged connections.
Ensure machine is powered down and locked out before checking electrical connections.
Inspect Motor Windings
Use a multimeter to check motor winding resistance between phases. Typical values should be balanced within 5% and show no shorts to ground.
Compare readings to motor nameplate specifications or previous baseline measurements.
Verify Drive Parameters
Access SETTING > PARAMETERS and check live tool drive current limit settings. Verify parameter 378 (Live Tool Current Limit) is set correctly for your motor specifications.
Factory default is typically 100%, but may need adjustment based on tooling load.
Test Motor Operation
Clear alarm and attempt low-speed live tool operation using MDI mode with M13 command. Monitor current draw on drive display during operation.
Start with lowest RPM to avoid immediate overcurrent if mechanical binding exists.
